Inspirations for Fairy Lakes & other locations in the Fairy Roads series
The initial setting for the Fairy Roads series is Limerick, Ireland–specifically the King’s Island area–as it was in the 1970s. That time and place are where my husband grew up. Some of the stories in Away with the Fairies are based on his experiences.

My inspiration for the Fairy Lakes was the Killarney Lakes area of Ireland. I took the photos below in the late 1990s but I suspect not much has changed in that area.
