I am pleased to announce that I have joined Scribe Hive Publishing, a women-owned publishing cooperative dedicated to providing mutual support and assistance to its authors so they are able to share great stories that want to be told.
My debut book, a Middle Grade fantasy titled Away with the Fairies, will be released in 2026 (probably Q2, but I will try for earlier). It will be the first in my “Fairy Lakes” series.
I made the decision to join Scribe Hive Publishing rather than using the traditional publishing route of finding and agent who then helps me find a publisher after much thought about my personal goals. This choice was driven by three primary considerations:
- Scribe Hive Publishing will support me with trusted referrals to artists, cover designers, copy editors, and such, but I will have the final say on the look and feel of the book as long as it appears professionally done. I do not have to “go it alone” through the publishing preparation process, as I would with fully independent publishing. Note: Traditional or hybrid publishers would provide these services, rather than referrals, but would also control the look of the final product.
- The timeline from “manuscript in good enough shape to publish” to “book available to purchase” is far shorter with Scribe Hive Publishing than it would be it would be with either traditional or hybrid publishing (I anticipate around six months with Scribe Hive Publishing versus a year for hybrid or 2+ years for traditional).
- I love the sense of community among the Scribe Hive Publishing authors, who write in genres aligned with mine though generally not the same. The group helps each other with everything from suggestions for improving log lines to personal support when life gets tough. That’s priceless.
An added bonus is that I retain all of my intellectual property rights.
The writer’s cooperative model used by Scribe Hive Publishing is not the right one for everyone. For me, it just made sense.
